EAST BELITUNG -- PT TIMAH Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability through various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. Most recently, the company provided assistance for the repair of waste containers to the East Belitung Environmental Agency (DLH) to help improve local waste management services.
Head of the East Belitung Environmental Agency (DLH), Adlan Taufik, expressed his appreciation for the support. He explained that many of the waste containers owned by the local government had suffered significant damage and required repairs to remain operational.
"Many of our waste containers are already in poor condition, with some even having holes. Purchasing a new unit would cost between IDR 80 million and IDR 100 million each. The repair assistance provided by PT TIMAH is therefore extremely valuable to us," he said.
Adlan explained that waste containers play a crucial role in transporting waste from various areas to the Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST).
Given the considerable distance to the TPST, having sufficient waste containers and collection equipment in good condition is essential for maintaining effective waste collection services.
He added that the local government's budget has not been sufficient to meet all infrastructure needs for waste management. Therefore, support from the private sector through CSR programs has become an important solution for strengthening public waste management services.
"Over the past several years, the available budget has not been enough to cover all of our needs. Support from companies like PT TIMAH is highly valuable in helping the government improve waste management services," Adlan said on Friday (June 26, 2026).
Beyond infrastructure, Adlan noted that one of the greatest challenges in waste management remains the low level of public awareness regarding waste segregation at the household level.
According to him, unsegregated waste makes the processing system at the TPST more difficult and can also create environmental problems, particularly organic waste, which decomposes quickly if collection is delayed.
"Public education on waste segregation must continue. Community awareness is the key to making waste management more effective," he stated.
Adlan also expressed hope that the collaboration between the East Belitung local government and PT TIMAH would continue to grow, not only in providing waste management infrastructure but also through environmental education and conservation programs.
"PT TIMAH has been a valuable partner in various environmental initiatives in East Belitung. We hope this collaboration continues because environmental management cannot be carried out by a single party—it requires synergy among the government, businesses, and the community," he said.
He added that the various environmental programs implemented in East Belitung have already produced positive results. However, these efforts must continue to be expanded so their benefits can reach more people while ensuring long-term environmental sustainability.
"With sustained collaboration, we are optimistic that waste management and environmental conservation efforts in East Belitung will continue to improve in the future," he concluded.
Last week, PT TIMAH and the East Belitung Environmental Agency also collaborated on environmental activities, including tree planting and waste management education programs for local schools. (*)
