BELITUNG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to support the development of community sports across its operational areas. One of its latest initiatives was supporting the Kades Cup I Women's Volleyball Tournament held in Terong Village, Sijuk District, Belitung Regency.
The tournament, held from June 21–28, 2026, at the Bebute Hamlet Community Volleyball Court in Terong Village, featured 11 women's teams representing villages throughout Sijuk District.
In addition to serving as a competitive sporting event, the tournament also provided an opportunity to strengthen community ties while encouraging people to embrace sports as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Tournament Committee Chairman Nurdin Thoyib expressed his gratitude for the successful organization of the inaugural event. He explained that limited funding had initially posed a challenge, but support from various parties, especially PT TIMAH, enabled the tournament to run smoothly.
"Alhamdulillah, even though this was our first tournament with many limitations, everything went well. We are very grateful for PT TIMAH's support, which greatly contributed to the success of this event," he said.
He added that from the outset, the committee was committed to making the tournament free for the public by not charging any admission fees. Thanks to PT TIMAH's support, the organizing committee, whose members had initially volunteered their time without compensation, was also able to receive honorariums.
"At first, all committee members worked voluntarily without any compensation. Thanks to PT TIMAH's assistance, we were finally able to provide honorariums to the committee members, even though the amount was modest. It was a meaningful way to recognize their hard work in making this tournament a success," he said.
The support also enabled the committee to increase the total prize money for the winners, making the tournament even more exciting and competitive.
According to Nurdin, the primary goal of the Kades Cup I was not simply to determine a champion, but to revive sports activities within the community while nurturing young volleyball talent at the village level.
"We hope this tournament will become an annual event. Our goal is for it to grow bigger each year, involve more community members, and encourage sports to become an integral part of people's lifestyles," he said.
He also expressed hope that the partnership with PT TIMAH would continue, allowing future editions of the tournament to expand into a larger competition with more participating teams.
"We sincerely thank PT TIMAH for its commitment to supporting community sports. We hope this collaboration will continue so that next year's tournament will be even more exciting and become an event that the community looks forward to every year," he concluded. (*)
