PANGKALPINANG -- To improve access to healthcare services for communities in its operational areas, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk has donated an ambulance to the Temberan Youth Organization (Karang Taruna Temberan) in Bukit Intan District, Pangkalpinang City, to support community healthcare services.
The ambulance was officially handed over by PT TIMAH’s Director of Operations, Handy Geniardi, to the Chairman of Karang Taruna Temberan, Firmansyah. The handover ceremony was witnessed by Bukit Intan District Head Muhammad Amir and Temberan Village Head Iwan Gunawan at Griya Timah, PT TIMAH, on Wednesday (July 1, 2026).
The ambulance is expected to improve transportation access for residents requiring medical treatment, particularly in emergency situations and for referrals to hospitals.
PT TIMAH Director of Operations Handy Geniardi said the ambulance donation reflects the company’s commitment to supporting community healthcare and social services.
“This program is part of PT TIMAH’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) initiative. We hope the ambulance will be utilized to its fullest potential in serving the community and that its benefits will be directly felt by the people,” he said.
He also expressed hope that the ambulance would be properly maintained so it could continue serving the community for years to come.
“We hope this assistance will be used and maintained properly so that it becomes a blessing for the community. PT TIMAH remains committed to implementing TJSL programs that deliver tangible benefits to communities surrounding our operational areas,” he added.
Handy further explained that PT TIMAH has consistently collaborated with local governments through various community development and empowerment programs, including support for healthcare, education, social initiatives, and cultural preservation.
Bukit Intan District Head Muhammad Amir expressed his appreciation for PT TIMAH’s attention to the needs of the local community.
“We are truly grateful for this ambulance donated by PT TIMAH. It is an extraordinary contribution because it addresses a real need in our community. Previously, whenever residents became ill or needed transportation to a hospital, we often faced significant difficulties,” he said.
According to Amir, the ambulance will be jointly managed by Karang Taruna Temberan and the Al Hikmah Foundation so it can be utilized for various social activities and community healthcare services.
“We hope this ambulance will be put to good use by Karang Taruna in serving residents who need assistance,” he added.
Chairman of Karang Taruna Temberan, Firmansyah, confirmed that the ambulance will operate 24 hours a day to meet the community’s needs.
Going forward, he said, the ambulance will be jointly managed with the Al Hikmah Foundation to provide healthcare and social services for local residents.
“We are deeply grateful for this assistance. The ambulance will be on standby 24 hours a day. We have already prepared both the management team and drivers, so residents can contact us at any time whenever they require ambulance services,” he explained.
He hopes the ambulance will make it easier for residents to access healthcare services, including transporting patients, expectant mothers, and supporting other social needs.
“Our village has never had its own ambulance. Whenever someone suddenly became ill, we had to borrow one from a neighboring area, which is quite far away, or even use a resident’s private vehicle. We sincerely thank PT TIMAH for providing this much-needed assistance. We hope PT TIMAH continues to grow and succeed as it continues supporting the community,” he said.
Echoing this sentiment, Chairman of the Al Hikmah Foundation Temberan, Irmia Ahmal, said the ambulance addresses the community’s long-standing lack of medical transportation.
“For a long time, our community has struggled because we did not have our own ambulance. Whenever someone became seriously ill or a pregnant woman needed immediate referral to a hospital, we had to borrow an ambulance from another location,” he said.
He explained that the geographical conditions of the coastal Temberan area, which is frequently affected by tidal flooding, make the availability of an ambulance especially important.
“With this ambulance, residents will have much easier access to healthcare services, especially during emergencies. We hope PT TIMAH continues to grow so it can provide even greater benefits to the community,” he added.
Meanwhile, Temberan Village Head Iwan Gunawan said residents had often struggled to find transportation for patients needing hospital care.
“People have frequently had difficulty finding transportation when patients needed to be referred to a hospital. With this ambulance from PT TIMAH, the community will be much better served, especially during emergencies. We sincerely appreciate PT TIMAH’s concern and support for the people of Temberan,” he said.
