EAST BELITUNG -- PT TIMAH Tbk supported the World Environment Day commemoration activities held in the Lalang Beach area, Manggar District, East Belitung Regency, on Thursday (June 25, 2026).
The commemoration of World Environment Day served as a momentum to raise public awareness about the importance of environmental protection. To mark the occasion, the East Belitung Environmental Agency organized a series of activities, including tree planting, distribution of plant seedlings, and waste management education for students.
Head of the East Belitung Environmental Agency, Adlan Taufik, stated that the activities involved various stakeholders, including students and local communities.
“We distributed seedlings to schools and conducted tree planting activities around Lalang Beach today, as well as educational sessions for students on waste management. Waste remains one of the key issues that requires our collective attention,” Adlan said.
The agency chose to plant sea pine and tropical almond trees because they are well-suited to coastal areas and can help protect shorelines from erosion.
“PT TIMAH’s support has been extremely helpful. Today, we are planting sea pine and tropical almond trees along the coastal area. The goal is to help prevent erosion at Lalang Beach, where the shoreline condition has become increasingly concerning as it continues to approach inland areas,” he explained.
He added that World Environment Day also serves as an opportunity to strengthen public education regarding the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness and practicing waste segregation from an early age.
“We hope this activity will educate the community and encourage greater environmental awareness. Given the vast area of East Belitung, waste management and waste segregation remain priorities that we continue to promote,” he said.
According to Adlan, support from PT TIMAH and other stakeholders has greatly contributed to the success of the event. He hopes this collaboration can continue, as improving collective awareness of environmental management requires sustained and ongoing efforts.
In addition to tree planting and environmental education, the World Environment Day commemoration was also used as a platform to encourage broader initiatives aimed at improving environmental management practices. (*)
