KARIMUN -- The celebration of the 80th Bhayangkara Day brought special joy to Irwan (56), a fisherman from Bukit Senang, Gemuruh Village, West Kundur District, Karimun Regency. As part of the commemoration, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk and the Karimun Police presented him with a meaningful gift: a renovated, livable home.
After nearly two years of being unable to live in his house due to its severely deteriorated condition, Irwan and his family can finally return to a safe and decent home thanks to the housing renovation assistance provided by PT TIMAH in collaboration with the Karimun Police.
The house had been in a critical state, with damage affecting almost every part of the structure. The wooden supports had rotted after being infested by termites, the roof was badly damaged, and the doors and windows were no longer functional. As a result, the family home inherited from his parents had become uninhabitable.
According to Irwan, the house had been abandoned for nearly two years after the roof completely collapsed. Concerned about his family’s safety and fearing the building could collapse at any time, he decided to move in with his child.
“For almost two years, we couldn’t use this house. The roof had completely collapsed—it wasn’t just leaking anymore. Now we can finally live in our own home again. It feels much more comfortable and gives us peace of mind,” he said.
Irwan explained that the proposal for home renovation assistance had been submitted around two years ago. When he finally received the news that his house would be renovated, he was overwhelmed with emotion.
“I never imagined this house would be renovated. We submitted the request about two years ago, and finally it was approved. It feels like a dream to see the house looking this good now,” he said.
As a fisherman whose income depends on daily catches, Irwan admitted that he had never been financially capable of repairing the house on his own.
“Sometimes my income is enough to cover our daily needs, and sometimes it isn’t. That’s why we are truly grateful for this assistance,” he added.
Through the livable housing renovation program jointly implemented by PT TIMAH and the Karimun Police, Irwan’s home was rebuilt. The damaged roof was replaced, the walls were repaired, new doors and windows were installed, and the previously semi-permanent structure was transformed into a sturdy permanent house that is safe and comfortable to live in.
“Alhamdulillah, my family and I would like to express our sincere gratitude to PT TIMAH and the Karimun Police Chief for helping renovate our home. Now it is comfortable and safe to live in. We hope this will be the beginning of a better life for our family,” Irwan said. (*)
